ANNUAL TAX ON SECURITIES ACCOUNTS
Voor de Nederlandstalige versie van het artikel, gelieve hier te drukken.
We would like to remind you that the annual tax on securities accounts is once again applicable for the reference period from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.
This tax amounts to 0.15% on the average value of financial instruments held on one or more securities accounts during the reference period, provided the threshold of €1,000,000 per account holder is exceeded (taking into account specific rules for joint accounts and multiple institutions).
For accounts held with Belgian financial institutions, the tax is generally withheld automatically. However, if you hold one or more securities accounts abroad, and the average value of the financial instruments on these accounts exceeds the €1,000,000 threshold, you are personally required to:
- 1. Declare the tax in your personal income tax return;
- 2. Calculate and pay the tax yourself using form 277.0 and the accompanying payment form, both available on the Belgian Tax Authority’s website;
- 3. Ensure payment is made no later than 31 August following the end of the reference period (i.e. by 31 August 2025 for the current period).
